Design and concept

Hi my friends!

I know it's been a long times since my last post, but I promise, I havn't forgot about you. The last couple of weeks have been very hasty and I havn't had a single minute to just sit down and tell about it.

I've been working on a 5 week long specialization about design and concept together with two other students here at Hyper Island. Working with sharp cases and real clients giving us a more then fair challange.

We choose to go extremley analog in the first phase of this project, since we wanted to brand our client as an "hand made" and "uniqe" company. Why? The reason for this is pretty simple. The company design one pice collections, making stage clothes for artists and other people with colorful personalities. So what makes them uniqe is that they handpaint each piece, so no piece looks like another.

Anyways, to get the handmade feeling that we were after, we started of by breaking the school budget and purchasing material for many hundred swedish crowns. mostly clay, but also other material that you need to build a physical model.

Now the company name is Rosegarden, so ofcorse, we wanted to create rosegarden.. the bright and romantic side of rock'n roll.

As you can see, we had quite a lot to do, but I'll also tell you this.. We all agreed that this was one of the most fun projects any of us had ever done.

Our client was very happy with us so we are now working on completing everything,

An interesting spring

Hi all!

I'm sorry, I know that it has been weeks isnce my last post here, but alot has happend since then so I've realy not have any time for bloging.

Anyways, we had deadline for our latest project last week. The Project Lifecycle, our first project where we i groups of 3-4 persons worked on sharp cases. My group worked for the swedish RedCross youth association, and their focus this year, Sex-hiv.

The mission was to creat a campaignish site that they could use as a portal and inform people about the risk of getting HIV when you're having sex. Our pretty early decieded that we didn't want to do as everyone else, and use some scare tactic, like showing some horrible pictures and telling people that they can die, cause they already heard that a thousand times before.. so we chose to inform in a fun 80:ish way instead. My part in this project was from start to be a designer, but ended up a front-end coder, so I had pretty much nothing to do with the design, on the other hand, if the css don't work, I'm the one to blaim for that :)

Pushing against a WDA victory

At this very momet, our promotion site dm09stockholm is at the top of Website Design Awards listing contest against staying on top for as long as posible for best design and progressiv flash site :) that's realy cool..

We were also featured at FWA about a week ago.. the payment is sent so we are now waiting and hoping that we will be nominated for "site of the day" award and listed at their gallery.

Pippi Longstocking poster work

Just dropping by real quick cause lack of time, and posting a conceptual graphic poster for a new setup of a play. Also the graphical concept skiss of the "analouge to digital", a mockup of how the campaign site could possible look.

Morning humor

After a night at hyper, the humor level was something like this.

Almost midnight and still at Hyper.. working on our class site, video production. Got a break now since one of our lights crasched so some people are away to fix a new one. Wile waiting, I trew up some cute flowers in illustrator.

Minor changes after feedback

I did some minor changes after getting some feedback from one of our workshop leaders. I removed the "extra protein" text from the logo, and added it to the back instead, changed the bullshit text to something about protein and adidas. Also changes some other texts, like changing the city Stockholm to Adidas home town, Herzogenaurach in Germany.

Anyways, here is the result. What do you think? is it an improvement?

Design specialisation; Day 1

Today was the first day of our specialisation at Hyper Island. I'm specialisate in design, and this was our first assignment and my result.

Assignment:
"1 liter of milk"

Condition:
Helvetica
milk carton
Work with typografi and graphical element
Mind the readability
Your idé shall correspond with the shape
Present your result on paper assembled on a milk carton

You decied:

wich/what cuts from the font that should be used

I chose to do my concept sketch in illustrator rather then InDesign simply
because I feel more comfortable in illustrator and I feel that I have a larger
graphical freedom in illustrator.

After doing alot of research at google, checking milk cartons and looking for inspiration, I finaly decided to go for one of my biggest inspiration sources, ADIDAS.
Using their colors and replacing their font with helvetica, my concept slowly started to take shape.

I spent about 7 hours on this project, so it was a bit hectic, but I'm pretty happy with my final result. Here is a slightly minimized picture of what I came up with.

Another pre-release

Part 2 is up, watch what happens at dm09stockholm.com, it looks to me on the image below as it's some sort of military bootcamp. But what does that have to do with digital media? Hm, I better find out cause I'm very curious.

A small preview

I'm posting a minor preview of my what I'm currently working on, an image only. It's like half way trough.

First pre-release

We are making progress. I'm happy to post our very first pre-release for our class site. It's been a few hectic weeks but it slowly starts to pay off. It's still alot to do, but with a whole month of time, I'm more then sure that we will manage. The URL to the site is dm09stockholm.com



Interesting isn't it? I wonder what our concept could be. Stay tuned for more pre-releases and in a while, the class site.

Entering hardcore mode

Alright, I'm back again. Sorry for the long waiting but I've had alot to do. Tomorrow is the start of our hardcore class site coding, we're aiming for a very tight deadline. I'm project manager on our class site project, wich is a huge project, so it feels realy great. I'm realy looking forward to this, the whole process, both the good and the bad parts. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to handle the stress in a good way, but I'm pretty sure I will.

Anyways, I'll try to report as often as I can, until next time, enjoy this illustration of myself.

It's a new year indeed

Welcome back, and welcome to 2008. A new year, 365 days to produce and create all kind of strange stuff, first out for this year are some strange cats that's killing eachother, strange isn't it?


















First day back at school today aswell, mening that we had to pick up where we left of before christmas, and had our first meeting regarding the class site and planing around that.

The days issues was mostly planing and financial issues like budgeting. How to manage everything together so we manage to pull this project together within those 5 weeks of time that we have.

We'll have another meeting tomorrow after we met with the leaders of each part of the project and try to sum it all up in to a more or less complete schedule.

Here is a sneakpeak of my and Raouls christmas card that we've done for a class calender that I'll post the URL to asap. This is what we got after we was done in illustrator... now it's off to photoshop for some magic and then off to After Effects for animation.. I'll post everything here as soon as it's done rendering.

Fast logo creation

We had some brainstorming about logotypes concerning a project we are working on.. got just over an hour to create a proposal, this is what I got.

Pixar brought Ratatouille to our lecture

Ziah Fogel from Pixar was here today, she spooke about their latest production Ratatouille. It was very interesting to meet this giant, and to hear all about their production line, all the way from first idea and brainstorming, to finished products. Reason why it took so long before I told you about it was because I had some problems getting pictures from the lecture. But now I got them, and here they are.. Ziah and her rat!

Meeting and shopping

That's pretty much what I've spent my time doing this week. Bought a new pair of shoes and a new hat yesterday, it's pretty amazing, I havn't found a hat that I actually fits in, since I was in like 8:th grade.

Anyways, our project is moving forward with a good pace. It's alot of planning and meetings right now, discussions between clients and the agency. We are working in blocks of three groups now, both beeing the agency, the client and the oponent group for eachother, so it takes a lot of planing and timing.

We are keeping the same groups that we had in our last project, so it's me, Axel, Samuel, Raoul and Martin again, tha G4.

Time for morning meeting now, gotta get back to you guys later, hopefully with some pictures too :)
